In 2022, the first edition of Heroes Comic Con Belgium took place in Brussels Expo in Brussels (Belgium). A year later it was followed by the second edition and we were there for both of them. Last weekend the third edition was held and it was promises to be bigger than ever and best of all is we were there! We were more than excited to return to Heroes Comic Con Belgium this year. And as always: excited is an understatement! Heroes Comic Con Belgium is one of the biggest pop culture events in the region, bringing together fans of comics, movies, TV shows, and video games. This year's edition included GameForce and Made in Asia, adding even more excitement and diversity to the event. None less than 62873 people visited the event in the halls of Brussels expo (the event spanned an area as big as 12 football pitches). There was a wide range of activities, from thrilling panels and celebrity meet-and-greets to interactive gaming experiences and exclusive merchandise. Let's talk about our weekend there!
Saturday highlights
F.c. de Kampioenen & Wim Swerts
Saturday began with us having a look in the guest area, which was filled with actors, artists and famous creators. When we were walking along the artist stands, I (Liv) saw a bunch of comics from "F.C. De Kampioenen", which is a Belgian sitcom revolving around the amateur football squad F.C. De Kampioenen. Despite of their enthusiasm, they are terrible at football. The story focuses on their shenanigans of the pitch. The show ran for 21 seasons from 1990 until 2011. The comic book series started in 1997. Artist Wim Swerts is one of the animators of the comics and its spinoff comic "Vertongen & Co.". And guess what? He was there signing the comics. Liv bought the newest Kampioenen comic and had it signed by Mr. Swerts.
Merchandise area
We also dove into the huge merchandise area and had a look at all of the awesome things that were for sale, from official merchandise to home made geeky goodies. Liv bought a Stitch cap at the Gllitz Wear stand and later on she also bought some new caps at the Legend Icon stand.
GameForce section
The GameForce section was a blast! We enjoyed some of the racing games and even got some Knorr pasta at the Spa Fran-Knorr-Champs stand. Dancing to a video game earned us some tasty Croky chips. We thought that choosing the song "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, would be an easy one to dance to. Well that was wrong. Let's just say we are glad that there isn't any video footage of our performance. We had a look at Farming Simulator '25 and played some Little Nightmares III. This area definitely was a huge success for us. We can't wait until Little Nightmares III comes out. A special shoutout goes out to the Belgian Student League, who had a stand with all kinds of fun games.
Panels
We also attended some of the panels on Saturday. First we went to the panel of Bob Morley and Eliza Taylor (The 100), which was very entertaining. We already attended some of their solo panels, but together they bring something extra to the stage. They talked about their time on "The 100" and answered all of the questions of the fans. And then there was the panel with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. Their popularity meant the room filled up fast, but hearing their humorous stories and behind-the-scenes tales from The Vampire Diaries made it all worthwhile. Ian Somerhalder is best known for his role as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, while Paul Wesley played Stefan Salvatore in the same series. Their dynamic chemistry and entertaining anecdotes were awesome. It was also great to see that they get along so well, after all these years. They are true examples of the saying that you don't have to be blood to be brothers. They told a lot of cool stories. We shares some of these already on our TikTok.
Walking around
Of course we can't tell you all of the things we did on Saturday, but we walked around a lot and made a lot of pictures. Here's an overview for the other things we did on Saturday. One of the things we did was eat and we had a lovely korean corn dog at the Tokkebi stand. There was also a stand with all kinds of 3D printed figurines and statues and we had a lot of fun walking around in that area.
Sunday highlights
Venom & Lord of the Rings
On Sunday we kicked off with a visit to the Venom stand. Whoop whoop! We played Venom roulette and took a printed photo. "Venom: The Last Dance" is the last film of the Venom-trilogy, with Tom Hardy in the role of Eddie Brock/Venom. The movie will hit the cinemas this week. Next, we explored the Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim stand and we made some cool pictures. The War of the Rohirrim is an upcoming animated film, set in the same universe as the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, focusing on the legendary King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand. It serves as a prequel to the Peter Jackson trilogy and is set 200 years earlier. The movie is directed by legendary anime director Kenji Kamiyama and is set to be released in December 2024.
Cosplay and Fangroups
The cosplay groups hall was also awesome with The Legend of Zelda: The Sanctuary, the Kato Precision Railroad Models, Star Wars displays and Belgian Potterheads who had a stunning Lego display of Hogwarts. There were also some Dragon Ball Z and One Piece setups, a huge Cosplay stage and a lot more. The Pokémon Hunt added an interactive twist, challenging everyone to find over 80 hidden Pokémon at Heroes Comic Con Belgium for prizes.
Panels
First of all, we attended an interview with comic artist Torunn Grønbekk. The interview was conducted by Arianna Turturro. Torrun is mostly known for her work on the upcoming DC comic Catwoman, Marvel's Venom, Thor, Carnage and much more. Arianna is an editor and writer at DC Comics and she worked on titles like Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Sirens and more. She also contributed to the award winning DC Pride Anthology. Arianna is the daughter of actor John Turturro and actress Katherine Borowitz. It was a very entertaining panel and we had a lot of fun listening to them.
The second panel we attended was the panel with Misha Collins, who is mostly known for his role as Castiel in "Supernatural". We already attended his panels at Heroes Dutch Comic Con last summer, so we knew that he is hilarious. He talked about his time on set and working with Jared Paladecki and Jensen Ackles.
We wrapped up with another panel with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. We loved their panel on Saturday so we just had to return. This time, the amount of people queueing was even bigger than the day before. The panel room was completely packed!!
Horror Maze: The Curse of Lotus
We had an awesome time in the horror maze The Curse of Lotus. We are both not easily scared in these things, but in this one we both had some jumpscares.
Food
Our culinary journey included a delightful bubble waffle with Nutella for breakfast and a varied lunch – pasta with cheese for Carola and Thai cuisine for Liv.
Other special guests
We also took some pictures of some of the other special guests at Heroes Comic Con Belgium. Also attending were for example actor Tim Downie and voice actress Amelia Tyler. Both of them have lent their voice to characters in the new game "Baldur's Gate III", but they are also known for other projects. We wrote about them in our preview article.
There were also some Heroes Made in Asia guests and we tried to take some pictures of them. First of all we saw Shōta Goshozono, animator, storyboard artist and director of Jujutsu Kaisen (among others). We also saw Satoshi Ishino, a Japanese animator, character designer and mechanical designer.
Furthermore we saw French voice actress Lévanah Solomon, known for her work on anime, but also the French voice of Nala in the live-action version of "The Lion King" and McKenna Grace's voice in the French version of "Ghostbusters: Frozen empire". Brigitte Lecordier also returned to Made in Asia, she is mostly known for being the voice of young Goku, but she did so much more.
Conclusion...
Between panels and activities, we met several friends from Instagram. We always love that. Whoop whoop! Heroes Comic Con Belgium 2024 was an extraordinary event filled with memorable moments, exciting activities, and cherished interactions. From thrilling panels to delicious, awesome activities and a lot of cool merchandise, every aspect contributed to an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait for the next adventure!
