Whoop whoop ... finally! This upcoming weekend (26-27 March 2022) it is finally time for the anniversary edition of Heroes Dutch Comic Con. Originally the anniversary edition was planned for March 2020. It will be the 10th edition of Dutch Comic Con and at it was exactly five years earlier that the first edition took place. Unfortunately, it had to be postponed due to Covid-19 and we all know what fresh hell we went into after that. Now two years later it is finally time for the 10th edition of Dutch Comic Con! We were there for every edition and we will be there this weekend. To celebrate 10 editions of Heroes Dutch Comic Con, we tried to take you on a trip through its history with a series of articles about our adventures over the years. In our first article we talked about the years 2015 & 2016, the second article was about 2017 and last week we published the third article about 2018. That leaves 2 more editions in 2019, which was an amazing Dutch Comic Con year. We had so much fun during the 2019 editions in March and November. So, without further ado: sit back, relax and let us take you back to the year 2019. We will start with the March edition, which took place in the weekend of 23&24 March in the Jaarbeurshallen in Utrecht! Ready? Set ... Goooooo!
Heroes Dutch Comic Con Spring Edition 2019
We were there for the whole weekend and we were very excited (excited is an understatement!).
So bright and early on Saturday morning (well at least it was early) we took a train to Utrecht. It all went very smooth and got there well in time to get to the press room. Earlier in March we received a personalized La Casa de Papel-onesie from a Dutch Party Company and that was just in time for Dutch Comic Con. We decided to wear the onesie as a sort of Cosplay uniform for a few hours on Saturday...
The movie and TV guests
With British actor Benedict Wong, the MCU came to Utrecht in March 2019! Of course, MCU stands for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Benedict plays the role of Wong. He is the 'sidekick' of Dr. Strange and the current Sorcerer Supreme. But Benedict Wong is known for a lot more than his role in the MCU. From 2014 to 2016 he played the role of Kublai Khan in "Marco Polo". He also played Baron In "Gemini Man", Lomax in "Annihilation", Bruce Ng in "The Martian", Mr. Kim in "Kick-Ass 2" and in lots more. The second guest was one we both were very excited about. We are both big fans of "Charmed" and Liv was a big fan of "Beverly Hills 90210" back in the 90s. The actress we are talking about had a main role in both of these TV shows... Yes! We are talking about Shannen Doherty!!! In "Beverly Hills 90210" she played the role of Brenda Walsh and in "Charmed" she played the role of Prue Halliwell. One of Shannen's first roles was the role of Jenny Wilder in "Little House on the Prairie" in the early 80s. In 1989 she played the role of Heather Duke in "Heathers" and most recently she played Doss in the 2021 action movie "Fortress". Not long after Dutch Comic Con Shannen announced to the world that the cancer (that had been in remission since 2015) was back...
Fans of the "Harry Potter" franchise (like Liv) were over the moon when the next guest was announced. With British actor/musician Tom Felton Dutch Comic Con had Slytherin in the house. Felton played the role of Draco Malfoy in all of the "Harry Potter" movies and he did this with flair. Let's be honest we all loved to hate that guy! Of course, you don't have to be a Potterhead to know who Tom Felton is. Before he took on the role of Draco Malfoy, Tom played Peagreen Clock in "The Borrowers" (1997) and Louis T. Leonowens in "Anna and the King" (1999). In 2011, Felton appeared in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (as Dodge Landon). In 2016 he played the role of Rufus Lancaster in the critically acclaimed "A United Kingdom". In 2016 and 2017 he played a recurring role as Julian Albert/Alchemy in CW's "The Flash". Most recently he returned to Hogwarts for the HBO special in honor of the 20th anniversary of "Harry Potter". Jennifer Morrison is mostly known for two roles that spanned over the last two decades of her acting career/life. In 2004 she landed one of the main roles in what turned out to be one of the most popular TV shows ever: "House". Jennifer played the role of the caring and considerate Dr. Allison Cameron for the first 6 seasons of the show. In 2011 she landed another big role as Emma Swan in ABC's "Once Upon a Time". You might also know her as Zoey Pierson (Ted's girlfriend) in season 6 of "How I Met Your Mother"...
At the time of Dutch Comic Con we were not watching "Outlander" yet (we are now and it's safe to say we are addicted), so when Sophie Skelton was announced for the event it did not ring a bell. Before landing the role of Brianna Randall/Fraser in "Outlander" in 2016, Sophie had some (recurring) roles in British TV shows. She also played the role of Zoe Parker in the 2018 horror movie "Day of the Dead: Bloodline". Katherine McNamara made her big break when she landed the role of Clary Fray in the Netflix supernatural drama series "Shadow Hunters" in 2016. She also played the role of Mia Smoake in the last seasons of CW's "Arrow" and the role of Sonya in the last two movies of the "The Maze Runner" trilogy. Besides these international movie and TV stars, Dutch writer Paul van Loon also found his way back to Utrecht.
What did we do?
First of all, we will show/tell you our adventures involving these guests we just described. We attended the panels of Shannen Doherty (twice), Benedict Wong (twice), Tom Felton (he also did a short concert after his Q&A), Jennifer Morrison. We also took some pictures at the panels of Sophie and Katherine and we are still kicking ourselves that we did not attend the entire panels (especially the Sophie Skelton one...we love "Outlander"!)...
We both had a photo op with Shannen Doherty and Liv also had a selfie. Since Tom Felton was at FACTS some months earlier, Liv already had a picture with him. She did go for an autograph and a selfie with Benedict Wong. And like I said, we are still kicking ourselves for not doing something with Sophie (and Katherine) ...
What else did we do?
First of all, we had a lot of fun at the stand of the Cosplay duo "Dutch Fredette vs Jason". Behind that creepy mask/make-up there are two great friends called Kelly and Daniel. Want to know more about this gruesome twosome? Check out the interview we did with them.
As you can see below, we had a lot of fun at the various photo opportunities at the event. Especially the "Shazam!" stand was so cool! FOX always has an awesome stand and this time there was a possibility to step into a digital "The Walking Dead" set and a digital "Legion" set. And of course, we cuddled with "Dombo" the Flying Elephant.
There was a lot of merchandise, fangroups, cosplay, props and food to be found at Dutch Comic Con...
We had lots and lots of fun!
Heroes Dutch Comic Con Winter Edition 2019
Our last stop at the journey through the history of Heroes Dutch Comic Con is the Winter Edition of 2019. The event was bigger than ever and we had lots of plans. One thing we knew for sure, on Sunday we had an interview planned with two Dutch comedians: Emilio Guzman and Thijs van Domburg. Together they wrote the book "Nerds" and we were ready to have a little chat with them about it. The rest of the weekend would be packed with panels, guest meetings, food, merch, cosplay, props and all that makes Dutch Comic Con what it is: one big party!
The movie and Tv guests
"The 100" is one of the most successful shows on Netflix and it has been since the first season. One of the main characters and fan favorite Marie Avgeropoulos (she plays the role of Octavia Blake) was a guest in Utrecht. She also played roles in two films of director Chris Columbus, being: "I Love You, Beth Cooper" (as Valli Wooley) and "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" (as Aphrodite Girl). She also played in the movie "50/50" (as Allison) and most recently you could see her in the seventh season of "The 100" as well as in "Jiu Jitsu" (as Myra) starring Nicolas Cage. Another very popular show on Netflix is MTV's "Teen Wolf" (based on the movie from 1985). The show revolves around Scott McCall, a very average teenager who gets bit by a werewolf. The role of Scott McCall is played by the American actor and musician Tyler Posey. More recently Posey starred in another MTV series "Scream: Resurrection" as Shane. When he was just 11-years old Tyler played a role in two big movies: "Collateral Damage" (as Mauro) and "Maid in Manhattan" (as Ty). In 2019 he starred as Ricky, alongside K.J. Apa (Archie in "Riverdale"), in the romantic comedy film "The Last Summer". In 2020, he starred opposite of Donald Sutherland in de horror movie "Alone" (as Aiden).
Irish actress Evana Lynch is mostly known for her role in one of the most popular and successful franchises in movie history. That franchise is "Harry Potter" and the role is the one of the eccentric Luna Lovegood. J.K. Rowling (writer of the books) thought that Evana was perfect for the role and that turned out perfect, because Evana received critical acclaim for her role. After the "Harry Potter" era, she received a lot of appraisal for her role as Emily in the 2015 drama film "My Name is Emily". In 2022 (later as planned due to Covid-19), she returned to Hogwarts for HBO's 20th anniversary special "Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts". Ian Ziering is mostly known for his role as Steve Sanders in the 90s television show "Beverly Hills 90210" and the 2019 reboot "BH90210". Liv was over the moon with this announcement as she was a big fan of the show back in the 90s. But Ian did a lot more and the upcoming list of TV and movie-work is just a selection. You might also know Ian from: the "Biker Mice from Mars" franchise as the voice of Vinnie, the "Mighty Ducks" franchise as the voice of Wildwing, "The Guiding Light" as Cameron Stewart, the "Sharknado" franchise as Fin Shepard, "Spider-man" as the voice of Harry Osborne, "Godzilla: The Series" as the voice of Dr. Nick Tatapoulos and more recently as Daniel Cassidy/Blue Devil in "Swamp Thing".
Okay, true... the next two guests aren't exactly TV and movie stars, but they are media personalities. Emilio Guzman and Thijs van Domburg are the writers of "Nerds", a book about nerds by nerds. They are both known for their stand up comedy shows and Emilio was a contestant in the 2018 edition of the popular Dutch TV show "Wie is de Mol?" (translated as "Who is the Mole?"). Emilio is also known for his role in the sketch comedy show "Klikbeet".

Liv went for an autograph of Evana Lynch, she had photo ops with Ian Ziering and Tyler Posey. She also did a selfie with Marie Avgeropoulos.
We already mentioned that we did an interview with the boys from "Nerds". Curious? Check out the video below (it is in Dutch though)...
What else did we do?
