I have a new series tip for you today! Are in doubt which series to watch next? Are you experiencing the after series dip, after finishing a series? No worries! We're here for you with a lot of series tips!
Today, I want to talk about How to Get Away With Murder. I had heard about this series before. And one day I decided to watch. I watched two episodes, but didn't really feel like watching any more. So I stopped.
But after I watched Once Upon A Time I experienced the well known after series dip. I didn't know what to watch. Or even which genre I wanted to watch. Believe me: My series 'to watch'- list is long! But you can't just start watching a series. It has to be the right moment.
I watched a new episode of The 100 of Netflix. But that only kept me busy for about an hour. I needed something new. And since I had tried How to Get Away With Murder already, I decided to give it another go until I had figured out what else to watch.
Little did I know, it was going to get me hooked this time! I watched an episode. And other one. And another one. And now I can say I'm really watching How to Get Away With Murder.
Main protagonist is AnnaLise Keating, a brilliant defense professor. The series follows her and her group of law students. They become twisted in a murder plot. And the only question becomes: How to get away with murder?
How about the actors?
Annalise Keating is played by Viola Davis. I think Viola really is a brilliant actress. Currently (2017) she's nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress in the movie Fences. I hope she'll win this time. She had been nominated 2 times before: As best supporting actress in Doubt and best actress in the Help. I've watched the Help, I loved the movie. I thought it was very well made. I've also seen Viola in the movie Suicide Squad as Amanda Waller. A totally different role from the one in How to Get Away With Murder. I think she's great in HTGAWM. Her character is great and has so many sides. She's able to portray Annalise both powerful and vulnerable. It's really impressive.
I'm also very happy to see that Liza Weil has a huge role in this series. I know Liza mainly as Paris in the Gilmore Girls. She's definitely my favorite character there. And she's doing awesome again in this series as well.
I'm less familiar with the rest of the cast of How to Get Away With Murder. But that's also nice. I also really enjoy 'discovering' new actors and actresses I like. The group of students that work with AnnaLise are:
Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch)
Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee)
Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King)
Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry)
Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza)
Watching the series has made me a big fan of Aja Naomi King. I think she's the best actress in the group of students. I really like her character as well in this series.
Who will like this?
How to Get Away With Murder is a crime/ drama / mystery series. If you like to see crimes solved, but also love some in depth characters and interesting plot twists then this is definitely the series for you! There's usually a case that they work on, which is always interesting. It seems difficult, but somehow they find an awesome way to solve it or reach their goal in another way. And then there's their personal story. Where they all have their own lives. But also get involved in a murder plot. This is very interesting to watch. Every episode is exciting and surprising again and i like that. If I have to compare it to another series, I'd pick Scandal. Though they are different they do remind me of each other. Mainly because of the complicated cases they get. And original ways they have to solve it. Both also have a strong female lead character. Who also have their own struggles. I love both series!
How many seasons?
The third season started in 2016.
My opinion
I love it! What I love the best is:
- Suprising plot
- Both cases and personal aspects of the characters make it interesting
- Creative ways to solve cases and problems. I'm never able to foresee what's going to happen.
- Great actors/ actresses.
I did have to get used to the insecurities of AnnaLise. She's such a strong character. And I think it's great that they show her insecurities and doubts as well. Sometimes, it just pains me to watch it. But that's also in a good way. You feel for her. It's hard to do the right thing. And always feel god about yourself. On the other hand: It's also hard to watch such a strong person go through rough times. Somehow you hope that there are people who have it all.
I'm actually watching the series right now and I just heard AnnaLise say: "You're messing with the wrong bitch.." I love it haha!

I love the series! I started watching it after suits because it was 'law-related' and I do not regret the decision. Except when it comes to procrastinating, because I use series to get away from obligations :p
